Storage Solutions Unlocked

project-3-storage-changes

We understand that effective storage solutions can significantly improve efficiency, especially in spaces where every inch counts. While working on a remodel of a center, we focused on creating storage accessible from the new consoles and maintaining functionality for the telecommunicators. Our Studio Team developed a custom approach that enhanced both organization and workflow.

Project At A Glace

  • Public Safety Facility
  • Telecommunications room remodel
  • 450 sq ft room
  • 4 Positions
  • Primary Challenges: Keeping personal storage close to the telecommunicator’s stations and increasing overall storage in the room.

The Request

The telecommunications center came to us with unique challenges: They needed to centralize storage, maximize floor space, and add additional workstations for dispatchers in a small room. Dispatchers required quick access to personal and work-related items from their consoles without disrupting others in a limited space. The lack of a dedicated storage room added to the complexity of the project, as the team’s workstations had to accommodate everything within their immediate area. The storage needs would lead to looking at multiple options to outfit their space.

The Solution

Our team wanted to ensure we were addressing all the customer’s needs, so we made multiple trips to see the space in person. During site visits, we talked to managers and dispatchers to understand how the space was currently used, and the pain points they faced daily. Our most important takeaways were that the dispatchers had considered using lockers for personal items but thought it would sacrifice valuable workspace, and their need for new top of the line consoles.

Our team went through multiple iterations of storage solutions to find what would fit their space and needs best. After drafting different layout options, we decided to create something custom.

We turned to our Studio Team, which specializes in designing one-of-a-kind modifications to our furniture, to create a unique storage solution.  For the center of the room, they created a custom-built locker and work island combination that solved both storage and workspace issues. The custom work island has four lockers on each side – one for each dispatcher. This allows easy access to personal items without taking up valuable work area around the consoles. The island was enhanced with a work surface on top, transforming it into a functional workspace with a height of 3’6”, ideal for paperwork and tech-related tasks.

The room layout was further upgraded by placing Mercury Pro consoles on opposite walls, ensuring optimal workflow while accounting for electrical and structural elements. To maximize functionality in the room, we added a rotating resource center for document storage, lateral file cabinets, and a fixed-height desk on the side for extra workspace. A central team table between the consoles allowed for additional tech setup, including printers and other devices.

The Results

The customer was thrilled with how personalized the solution was. They appreciated that we took the time to personally understand their daily workflow and designed storage that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The custom work island designed by our Studio Team addressed the primary concern of keeping items close by without sacrificing workspace. By optimizing the floor plan, the dispatchers now have more usable space and better access to essential tools.

“We love getting to provide personal solutions for our customers. This was a great project because we were able to spend time with the client, see the space, and help them find the best product for their needs.” – Arthur, National Sales Manager
