New Space Optimized For Peak Performance

Richardson PD 1

Richardson Police Department

When the Richardson Police Department set out to outfit the brand-new Richardson Public Safety Campus, they partnered with Watson Consoles. Prioritizing functionality, collaboration, and ergonomics, our team delivered a custom design that optimized space, improved workflow, and enhanced operator wellness. The result is a dispatch center that fosters teamwork and efficiency with cutting-edge, adjustable workstations.

Project At A Glance

  • The new Richardson Public Safety Campus, which features a 77,000-square-foot police facility and a 7,000-square-foot police support building.
  • Primary Challenges: Functionality, collaboration, ergonomic needs, and technology integration.
  • The project included 14 consoles in addition to extensive tech and personal storage.

The Request

The department needed a space designed to support dispatchers who work marathon hours in high-stress situations. Their workspace isn’t just about efficiency; it needs to foster camaraderie, ensure connectivity, and prioritize ergonomics to help them perform at their best without succumbing to burnout.

Meeting these needs required workstations that enabled seamless communication, ergonomic desks that adjusted to each dispatcher’s comfort level, technology integration for multi-monitor setups, and storage solutions to keep workspaces organized. We conducted a detailed assessment to understand their requirements, ensuring every element of the new space contributed to their mental and physical well-being. Each piece of furniture was chosen to create an environment that supports dispatchers, so they can support their community.

The Solution

Taking a functionality-first approach, Watson Consoles provided a comprehensive solution. We installed Mercury Pro and Lite Consoles with height-adjustable desks, allowing telecommunicators to switch seamlessly between sitting and standing positions. To enhance technology integration and cable management, we incorporated Technology Stackers and Bases, ensuring a streamlined setup for modern dispatch tools.

Personalized comfort features included built-in heating and fan options. Fully articulating monitor arms allow dispatchers to adjust focal points, reducing strain and improving visibility. Strategic storage solutions, such as the Mercury 30” Team Open Box Door and 50” Personal Pallet Storage, provided much-needed organization and accessibility.

Our team worked closely with department supervisors to ensure a smooth installation with clear communication.

The Results

Client feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with department supervisors reporting a smooth installation process, responsive support, and easy communication. The new workstations allow for an efficient dispatch team, ready to serve their community in a new facility.

The new equipment with lowering and raising desks has been great. It is nice to all be in one central location to have camaraderie and teamwork.
